Our founders were ten of the first twenty women admitted to Syracuse University in 1872. They had the courage to persevere to earn a college education despite societal expectations at the time. Alpha Phi values each member's passion for education, knowledge and achievement. We strive to promote the education of women and work to be the best versions of ourselves.
The Delta Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi offers various programs and support systems in order to encourage our members to improve their scholastic performance and achieve academic success. We are very proud of our chapter’s average GPA of 3.51, as this exceeds both the national average for collegiate women as well as the PHA's average of 3.33.
Each semester the Director of Academics assigns Scholarly Sisters – a group of four or five girls from different pledge classes who are in the same major. These groups allow sisters to assist each other through navigating classes, internships and extracurricular academic activities. During midterms and finals week, the house provides late night snacks and various transformed study rooms throughout the house to encourage members to study together.
We award academic excellence through our program Yays for As, where members of the chapter send in their As on assignments, papers, and tests as entry for a chance to win a gift card at chapter. We also acknowledge those with 4.0 GPAs each semester with a certificate at the end of the year to honor their achievements.
